For a special edition of “CBS This Morning” from the Empire State Building in 2019, future Inaugural Poet Amanda Gorman read an original poem accompanied by future Oscar & Grammy winner Jon Batiste. As one of the seniors in charge of the Empire State Building show, I came up with the idea for Amanda Gorman, who had previously written works for the show, to write an ode to the Empire State Building and pair her with a musician. After brainstroming with our booking team, we were able to secure Batiste for this truly original, moving piece.
